Objects of sculptural beauty in their own right, the Botanical Planter Screens by Helen Kontouris were inspired by visits to botanical gardens and the designer’s love of Australian native flowering plants. Intertwined with vigorous climbing plants – whether ornamental or bearing edible fruits and vegetables – these versatile screens can be used indoors and out to bring the healing power of nature into urban environments.

Unlike more complex ‘green walls’ and vertical gardens, each Botanical Planter Screen functions in the same way as a single, self-watering planter pot – keeping ongoing maintenance to a minimum.

Once swathed in greenery, the ‘Waratah’ planter screen and the delicate leaf-like forms of the ‘Wattle’, ‘Acacia’, ‘Banksia’ and ‘Lilly Pilly’ can be used in virtually limitless ways as Acoustic panels and green space dividers in open plan workspaces. Screening and directional wayfinding in restaurants, cafes and foyers. Living walls in small office spaces, apartments, courtyards and balconies. Rejuvenating and acoustic panels for hospitals and healthcare environments to aid patient recovery. Dividers for outdoor spaces. Screening for pool and outdoor entertainment areas. Concealing unsightly outlooks via the assembly of mini green walls. Create a thriving vegetable garden in a small space, using climbing plants such as passionfruit, snow peas, cucumbers and climbing tomatoes.

Unlike typical heavy screening devices, the Botanical Planter Screens create oases and rejuvenating refuges surrounded by the unobtrusive lightness of nature and replicating the serenity of a botanical garden.

Botanical Planter Screens Wins 2018 Good Design Award®

The winners of Australia’s Good Design Awards, the highest honour for design innovation in Australia, were announced at the Sydney Opera House on 17 May at the 60th Annual Good Design Awards Ceremony.

Botanical Planter Screens received a prestigious Good Design Award® Gold Winner in the Product Design category in recognition for outstanding design and innovation.

The annual Good Design Awards is Australia¹s most prestigious Awards for design and innovation with a proud history dating back to 1958. The Awards celebrate the best new products and services on the market, excellence in architectural design, digital and communication design and reward emerging areas of design including business model innovation, social impact and design entrepreneurship.

The Good Design Awards Jury commented – Surprise and delight, this product makes people smile. Generic privacy screens in office areas are generally depressing and oppressive, this product is lighthearted and whimsical in its design and super easy to move and use. Very simple and very appealing for this reason. The units are extremely well made and thought through. This is a delightful and simple system that brings the softness of nature into commercial environments.

Moving video: Neil Mitchell ambushes TLC for Kids with brand new car

When 3 Point Motors joined Neil Mitchell at his TLC for Kids Family Fun Day last year, they saw charity well worth supporting.

They wanted to help more, and upon seeing the condition of the TLC for Kids transport options, they knew how to do that.

Yesterday, they teamed up with Neil Mitchell to deliver a slick new Mercedes-Benz van for the kids.

And the TLC for Kids team didn’t see it coming.

On behalf of TLC for Kids, we cannot thank everyone involved enough for this incredible act of generosity…
